About Yoga

Yoga is an ancient practice born from a desire to unite one’s mind, body and spirit to make sense of the world we live in.  Today, yoga serves the same purpose. By making our bodies more strong and flexible, improving our connection with the environment through the breath, and learning to see into our own hearts and focus our minds, we can learn to live our lives more joyfully and to know ourselves more completely.

Yoga strengthens and lengthens muscles that we use routinely, as well as those that get little use in our daily lives.  It helps to cleanse the body, improve the function of our internal organs, and teaches us proper physical alignment giving better posture and greater self-confidence.  Development of the respiratory system through breathing techniques improves our abilities to access and distribute oxygen throughout our bodies, making our bodies function more efficiently and our minds more able to focus and think.  We can use the breath to help to energize us or to calm us if we have the right tools.

Yoga can give children and adults the tools for a strong body, a flexible mind and an open heart.

About Anusara Yoga®

Yoga is a practice which is thousands of years old, and consequently has been adopted and adapted by many different groups as a way to help them achieve a closer connection with their worlds.  Different styles of yoga have slightly different approaches to living.  Anusara Yoga®, a system of yoga founded by John Friend, melds a philosophy of intrinsic goodness with a refined approach to body alignment.  Through John’s extensive knowledge of yoga and the human body, he developed the elegant and logical Universal Principles of Alignment™ (of the body).  Awareness of these Principals helps us to understand the needs of our bodies in movement, which in turn allows us to work toward our optimal physical alignment.  When our bodies are aligned better we can align better with our worlds, both inner and outer, living a more healthy, conscious and joyful life.

About YogaKids

YogaKids, developed by Marsha Wenig, encourages children in their development of strong bodies and minds through integrative leaning using yoga as a pathway.  Children learn how their bodies work, and how to take care of them.  Yogic techniques are melded with math, science, language, music and art in a fun, non-competitive way.
